Your employees ensure the smooth running of your business. You hire the right people for the right job, and you give them the appropriate tools and benefits that’ll keep morale high and their productivity even higher. Yet, many businesses fail to engage with their employees appropriately. This leads to inefficiencies and a lack of yield which can end up affecting your business’s success. As an employer, one of your duties is to keep your employees happy and content for their own benefit and the benefit of your company. This is how you can improve your employee engagement.
Depending on how busy you are or how large your company is, you may only have time to have a bimonthly meeting or a check-up every six months. However, this is better than nothing. Make sure when you meet with your employees that it’s a time for you to praise their accomplishments, offer constructive advice on any issues and allow them to talk to you openly, whether it’s work related or not. Regular meetings make your employees heard, and if they believe you care about them, then they will care about you and your company in turn. Having said this, it’s important that you do not hold meetings for no reason; nothing weakens moral like overdrawn, lengthy meetings that express nothing that couldn’t have been conveyed in a concise office email. It’s great to hold regular meetings where staff feel they can get their point across in a collaborative environment, but it is important that you get the balance right between creating an open environment and involving your staff in issues and decisions that may actually hinder their productivity.

Employees like to be kept up-to-date, however, if your company is large, then it can be difficult to keep everyone in the loop. Therefore, a regular newspaper, whether it’s online or printed, will not only impress them, but it will also improve connections.
Include a Break Room
Many companies make the mistake of letting their employees eat at their desk. This can not only be detrimental to their health, but it can also rob them of free time they rightfully have during lunch. Tension and an aching back are only two of the stresses caused by a lack of break room, however, it can also affect their social life and reduce their quality of work life. Therefore, make sure they have a space to head to on their lunch break, where they can sit at a table with co-workers or unwind on a comfy couch. You could even include table tennis or a pool table for extra engagement and fun.
By doing all of the above, your workers will return to their desks refreshed and ready to work efficiently. If you don’t, they won’t have a clear break from work and will feel drained and end up burnt out.
Train Them Properly
Offer proper training so you can continue to improve the running of your company and the skills of your employees. By doing so, they will feel like valued investments, while also learning skills continuously that’ll help them further their careers. Invest time and money in your employees and they will, in return, wish to work properly and effectively. However, when you train them, make sure your training days are fun and do offer something of value. If you don’t, your employees will feel like it’s a waste of time and won’t enjoy themselves or learn anything.
