Main Ingredients
- 4 cups milk whole milk preferred
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ¾ cup sugar
- 6 egg yolks large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
In a saucepan, combine milk, cream, and nutmeg. Heat over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until thick and pale.
Slowly add hot milk mixture to egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
Return mixture to saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Do not boil.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let cool, then refrigerate until chilled.
Serve chilled with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
