Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large Onions thinly sliced
  • 4 cups Beef broth
  • ½ cup White wine
  • 2 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Pepper
  • 4 slices French bread toasted
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese grated

Instructions 

  1. 1. Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. 2. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 25 minutes.
  3. 3. Add sugar, salt, and pepper, and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. 4. Pour in the white wine and let it reduce by half.
  5. 5. Add beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  6. 6. Preheat your oven's broiler.
  7. 7. Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls, top with toasted bread, and sprinkle with Gruyere cheese.
  8. 8. Place bowls under the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
